Ni hao,
Excellent job on your country profiles. Now that you are finished with those, you and your partner should finish your research. After that, it will be time to write a position paper. As you write your position paper, keep these things in mind...
1.) How does this issue affect my country?
2.) What does my country want to do?
3.) How will my country get what it wants?
Those are your goals in Model UN. It is your job to learn what your country wants and how it is affected by the issue. During the conference it is your job to get what your country wants.
In order to get what you want, keep in mind that you must have at least five other countries vote for your proposal. Now, you may ask yourself "Who will help me?" The best thing to do would be to find other countries who are in the same economic blocs, regional blocs and International Organizations. They will most likely be on your side.
Today, you will write your country's Position Paper. As you write it, use the "Position Paper Outline" under the month of September on the blog and remember those three things listed above. Also, remember that your position paper should include lots of facts about your country and other countries economies, CO2 emissions, etc.
After you write the position paper, take it and turn it into a Caucus Outline. A caucus outline is your Positoin Paper in a bulleted list. You will use that Causcus Outline during the conference.
last, but not least, by the end of today you and your partner should write out your Opening Remarks. Your Opening Remarks are the one to two minute speech that every country will make at the beginning of the conference. Practice your Opening Remarks!!! Both delegates from each group will have to speak for half the time.
That is our agenda for today. Again, if you have any questions, ask myself, Mr. Poole, Mr. Barker or Eric.
Jia you!
Mr. Gibson
PS - Tomorrow, we all need to wear FORMAL ATTIRE!
