Classwork and Homework

Ni hao,

OK. Here is this week's homework...

1.) Fix up any mistakes from last week's homework.

2.) Each of you will be assigned a country or influential media organization. Your job is to look at how that country/organization is reacting to the news that is coming out of Libya. We will gather next Tuesday and, during first period, collaborate.

Here are your country assignments...

Darren: Al-Jazeera (Qatar/ Middle East)
Murielle: La Monde (France)
Christine: Russian Times (Russia)

Catherine: Media Indonesia and Antara (Indonesia)
Peggy: NBC and Fox News (United States)
Eve: The Times of India and NDTV (India)

Sarah: El Universal and El Mundo (Venezuela)
Sabina: Xinhua News (China)
Junior: The Punch, and The Nigeria Tribune (Nigeria)

You need to find at least five different news articles (not editorials) that deal with the topic. Give a one paragraph synopsis of those articles and be prepared to share them. Your synopsis should also include a brief explanation of who the author is. Also, be prepared to answer this question...

"How does (your country/ organization) seem to feel about the attacks in Libya?"

3.) Start preparing your defense, prosecution, or testimonies. They will be your midterms.

Mr. Gibson

"India backs UN sanctions against Libya"
This news article is negative, because it interviewed people with negative opinions upon the issue and mentioned more negative sides of Libya's military regime.

"Gaddafi likens his crackdown to India's action in Kashmir"
This article is totally negative, since it had clearly stated "Gaddafi has rarely been a person India has been comfortable with."

  16. 1. Series of explosions in Sirte, Gaddafi's hometown
-this is positive because the article described Gaddafi’s army as if they are saving the people from getting invaded by the rebels.

    3. Obama: "We're successful in our mission" to Libya
-this is neutral because both positive and negative perspective is included. UN is establishing this “no-fly zone” to prevent wars, yet the US government doesnt wholey approve.

    4. In Libya, the rebels moved to the west
-this is a positive article. The no fly zone policy along with other decisions are made within the ambassadors of 28 countries. The prevention of the assault of the rebels are stopped and they say “the last city held by the rebels”
