There is a pre-debate about Food Security this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. If you don't have any plans for Dragon Boat Festival, I suggest you get online and take a look. There is a full on debate on June 12th about Food Security. Don't worry about the issue. the main point of this excersice is to get you all familiar with using OrgSync. it's basically a mix between Facebook and Google Docs.

How to Make Objections
HERE ARE THE DIFERENT OBJECTIONS
Speculation – Don’t ask the witness to give their opionoins
Vague as to Time - You should ask specifically “when and where."
Hearsay – It’s better to get primary sources as opposed to secondary sources.
Non-Responsive – The witness isn’t specifically answering the question. They are talking about things unrelated to the trial.

Week One of the ICC Tribunal
Ni hao,
Sorry to email you so late, but here is the game plan for Tuesday. We will first do Opening Statements. This means that the prosecution will first all make some sort of speech which summarizes the case that you are making against the defendants. Look at the video "The Trial of Milosevic" to that British gentleman who was the Chief Prosecutor for an idea of what your speech should look and sound like. After that, everyone in the Qadaffi family needs to get sworn in, then take the stand, and finally actually make some sort of statement. Look no further than Slobodan Milosevic himself for an example of what to do. Witnesses, you will not go on Tuesday. However, you will be expected to document our case. More on that tomorrow or Tuesday. Witnesses also need to prepare all of their testimonies with the prosecution team. After Tuesday, the prosecution will call witnesses to the stand and get evidence admitted. That requires you to look over those videos we watched two weeks ago and prepare accordingly. After next Tuesday, the prosecution will make their arguments based upon their witnesses and evidence and the defendants will do all the cross examination.
Jia you!

Qadaffi and the Jasmine Revolution
Hello and welcome to the Mingdao High School Model United Nations blog!

ENJOY!...
OK, the last month has been INCREDIBLE in the Middle East. It has been a domino effect of revolutions since a guy named Mohammed Bouazizi set himself on fire in order to protest corruption, injustice an poverty in Tunisia. Since then, almost half of the Middle Eastern countries have faced riots, protests, and absolute revolutions. Take a look!

Mohammed Bouazizi - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHw_auqod6Y from Aj-Jazerra News
Tunisia Begins to Protest - http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/watch?v=BPyvrWblA0I from Al-Jazerra News
Tunisia's President Ben Ali Steps Down -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou6Oqnz4O4I of State News of Tunisia
President of Tunisia flees the country - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guOlqZYrcTM from CNN
Egypt - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xWiBCIxjIk from a protesters camera phone
Mubarak Says He Will Not Seek Re-Election -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsIBw199b5Q&NR=1
WATCH THIS ONE FOR SURE!!! Mubarak Steps Down Completely and People React in Tahir Square- Tahir Square is like Egypt's Tinammen Square.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqGLgjTc8UQ
Bahrain - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6RCBOC-MAM from Al-Jazerra News
Iran - There are few foreign journalists in Iran and media is heavily restricted. Iran's story goes back to 1979 and last year. In 1979, the had a pro Islamic and anti American Revolution. (They didn't like America because America was supporting a dictator who was stopping them from having any freedom of religion or assembly, etc.) Since then, Iran's new leaders have become very corrupt and unpopular. Last year, they had an "election" in which the person who probably won was told that he actually lost by the Supreme Leader. Since the rest of the Middle East has risen up, Iranians have started to rise up.
This was Iran last year during the elections of 2010 -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcHT8-ps64w from the BBC
This is Iran right now - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSI8dTjB_yk
Yemen - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qb-lEEOAnKE&feature=relatedfrom Al-Jazzera News
Libya - There are few foreign journalists and many restrictions on media in Libya (much like China and Iran). However, we do have a speech from Qaddafi's sonhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12520586 from BBC News which got the film from the State Media of Libya
NOTE: This is where the Civil War began. Take a look at any and all research you can to give you an idea of what happened with the Civil War. I would suggest using the following news organizations...
Al-Jazeera
BBC
CNN
Question - Why are so many people answering questions in English?

Here is the actual resolution which entered into force (meaning people could actually use it) on July 1, 2002. If you haven't read this text, read it, cite it, and use it to plan your defense, prosecution, or testimonies.

The Trial of Milosevic
Yo,
OK, we have two goals for today. First, we go over how the trial will actually work along with some key terms that you will need to get familiar with over the rest of the semester.
Next, we will watch the film "Milosevic on Trial." It should give us a good idea about how the trial will work and it might give you a few more ideas in terms of what to do for strategy.
Check out the links below for homework. I posted the 1st chapter of "Milosevic on Trial" as well as some links to key vocabulary terms. Most importantly, I also posted some "how to" videos which will explain how to...
* make testimonies
* bring evidence into a trial
* make objections (and get them sustained)
* behave properly in court
In order to prepare for our trial, which starts next week, you must read all of the links below.
Jia you,
Mr. Gibson
